I thought that for this week’s post I would use a couple of images with divers in them. This first one is John Koskulitz hovering over an anemone while observing the resident anemone fish.

Indonesian Sunset
If you read Wednesday’s post you know the reason the blog has been inactive is that I was in Indonesia doing some diving. One of the tricks to adjusting to shifts in time zones is to force yourself to stay awake until close to “normal” bed time–in local time. So the first evening I made a point of checking out the sunset. (Actually made a point of shooting sunset almost every night, except a couple where it was an obvious bust.) And as it turned out this was the best of the bunch. So here is a series of images from that night.
Since this was an international flight we were allowed 2-50lb bags each. But with dive gear for both of us, my underwater photo equipment, and my wife’s underwater video gear there just wasn’t enough weight allowance to fit a tripod. (Plenty of space; just that each bag already weighted in at between 48 and 49.5 pounds.) So all of these are hand held.

Underwater Wednesday–Yellow Crinoid with Blue Water and Fish
I’m sure some of you think I must have fallen off the end of the world. Well, truth be told, is only about half true. For the last two weeks I was only half way around the world, in Indonesia. In fact the last post on September 8th was posted from Indonesia. And I had planned to post more from there but my laptop decided to die. (This was a trip of attrition for myself and traveling companions. We had a lot of photo equipment problems–delicate electronics and salt water do not go well together.)
Being half way around the world, the time difference is exactly 12 hours. So I didn’t even bother to change my watch. I just needed to remember when it was 6AM there that it was 6PM, the previous night, back home.
They say getting there is half the fun. Do not believe them. Traveling, no matter what the mode, for 36 straight hours is not fun–it’s a form of torture. It’s taken 4-5 days for me to get “right” since getting home. And catching a head cold has not helped either. (Probably caught it on the way home during the 25 hours spent sitting in crowded airplanes.)
Hopefully I’ll get back to regular schedule of posts soon. In the mean time hope you enjoy this image. Read the rest of this entry »
Unerwater Wednesday–Crionoids with Fish on Sponge
Just a quick one today–just to let you know I’m still around. Been busy.
